As we celebrate MedComms Day on June 25, with this year’s theme “Pride in Our Profession,” we take the opportunity to reflect on the values that define us at Nucleus Global. In this insight, written by Brendan Murphy and Babs Kell, both Senior Vice Presidents, we’re invited to consider how this moment of recognition—aligned with Pride Month— invites us to be visible, celebrate the power of conscious inclusion and authenticity, and the meaningful work that brings us together.
Pride in Our Work
From the beginning, Nucleus Global has taken on the hard challenges others often avoided. Our foundation was built in the midst of the HIV/AIDS crisis—an area many organizations hesitated to touch due to stigma, complexity, or fear. But our founder, Stephen Cameron, saw the urgency and ran toward the need, not away from it.
One of the first people to join him was Louisa Bullows. As a client, she helped launch the first antiretroviral for HIV. Stephen recognized her brilliance and compassion and invited her to be part of building something new. Louisa remained a much-loved part of our company until her untimely passing in 2012, but her legacy, and our commitment to work that matters, lives on.
That commitment goes far beyond the commercial. From partnering with clients and HIV opinion leaders supporting access to HIV drugs in sub-Saharan Africa to providing funds, time, and expertise working with an HIV/AIDS charity bringing medical, community, and educational resources specifically to Kireka, Uganda. We’ve consistently brought our skills to projects that drive equity and impact, not just revenue.
We know illness can often bring more than physical challenges. It can also carry stigma, misunderstanding, and inequality. With conditions like HIV, hepatitis, malaria, cancer, and mental health, the experience of illness is often shaped by social and emotional factors as much as the clinical ones. Helping to ensure science reaches those who need it most, particularly in underserved communities, is something we can all take deep pride in.
These efforts are more than just projects. They’re reflections of our values. Med comms may happen behind the scenes, but its impact is real, visible, and often life-changing. That’s something worth celebrating.
Pride in Our People
At the heart of this work are our people. Across every team and time zone, Nucleus Global is powered by individuals who are not only experts in their fields but also deeply committed to doing work that matters.
We don’t always stop to say it, but the collaboration, quiet resilience, and sharp thinking that define our teams are something special. Whether facing tight timelines, big pitches, or breakthrough moments, we show up for each other and the work.
Diversity—of background, discipline, and perspective—is celebrated because it makes us stronger. In healthcare, empathy and inclusion aren’t optional; they’re essential In healthcare, empathy and inclusion aren’t optional; they’re essential. And in our daily collaborations, we see how living our values leads to better outcomes for clients, patients, and communities.
Pride in Ourselves
Pride Month is a time to honor the LGBTQ+ community and the power of being able to bring your whole self to work. For us, that means fostering a workplace where individuality is valued, voices are heard, and authenticity is welcomed.
Through our Business Employee Resource Groups (BERGs) and Inizio Medical’s broader inclusivity commitments, we continue working toward a culture that reflects the diversity of the world we serve. Whether through allyship, sharing lived experiences, or simply making space for conversation, we aim to ensure everyone feels seen and supported.
When people feel safe and empowered, they thrive—and so does the work.
A Profession to Be Proud Of
Med comms doesn’t always make headlines, but it plays a vital role in healthcare to truly make a difference. We help ensure that healthcare professionals can understand and use the science behind new treatments by turning complex data into clear insights, shaping the conversations that healthcare professionals have with their patients and caregivers, and sparking action.
When done right, we help ensure that treatments don’t just get approved. They get understood, accessed, and used well.
That’s why, this MedComms Day—especially during Pride Month—it feels fitting to reflect on what pride really means: showing up fully, for our work, our teams, and ourselves.
At Nucleus Global, we’ve been doing just that since day one.
And that’s something we’ll always be proud of.
